Probably the most boring local derby ever played between these two local rivals with chances very few and far between, and either goalkeeper not having a save to make during the entire match. Penycae snatched the victory with an Ian Andrews header mid way through the second half after Rhos failed to clear a long punt up field.

Cefn United strengthened their grip at the top of the Welsh National League Premier Division with a narrow 2-1 win at Rhos Aelwyd who took a 15th minute lead through Phil Dodd and it stayed that way until half time. Lee Price clawed Cefn back into the game and he doubled his tally 10 minutes later and the goal proved decisive. Rhos rallied late on and Cefn were glad to hear the whistle when it come.

It wasn’t exactly vintage Rhos Aelwyd as they struggled to defeat Corwen 2-1. Youngster Steven Parry opened their account but Arwyn Owen hit back with a penalty on the stroke of half time. Tom Smith squandered a spot-kick for Rhos but it all cae right in the end when with 5 minutes remaining, a a Corwen defender scored an own goal.

Mold Alex were back on the title trail with a 4-2 success at Rhos Aelwyd. They took a the lead through Wes Brereton but Rhos equalised with a stunning volley by Tom Smith. Rhos then went in front after youngster Steve Parry was fouled when clean through on goal Smith converted the resulting penalty. Mold hit back through Stuart Hayes and Wayne Craig and had the final say when Brereton put the game beyond reach after Rhos had conceded a penalty.

|
Rhos pick up their first win in 6 outings today with a comfortable 3-1 victory againt struggling Acrefair on what was probably the poorest surface in the league. Rhos opened the scoring on 5 mins when the home goalkeeper fluffed dealing with a back pass and allowed Eryl Roberts to roll the ball into a empty net. Rhos doubled the advantage on 10 mins with an excellently taken free kick from the impressive Leighton Edwards. Rhos completed their scoring from the afternoon on 30mins with Eryl Roberts converting his second goal of the afternoon. HT 3-0
Rhos started the second half hoping the achieve a morale boosting large scoring victory but it did not seem to work that way with Acrefair scoring a consolation goal on 75 mins to give the home fans some for of hope.

Brymbo

1-2
|
Rhos entertained high flying Brymbo and fielded a very young side.
Brymbo took the lead from a long range shot which swerved and left keeper Darren Reynolds going the opposite way.
Rhos picked their game up from then and went close on two occasions, the pressure finally turned into a goal when from a corner Phil Dodd scored with an overhead kick from close range.
A needlessly conceded free kick on the edge of the box saw the visitors go ahead, it was well struck and gave our keeper no chance. H/T 1-2
In the second half Rhos began to dominate the game with Aidey & Eryl causing them problems, unfortunately, the Aelwyd couldn't produce the final ball for the equaliser.
A very good effort by the team from which a lot of potential is starting to flourish, in particular, Stephen Parry and Darren Reynolds who are improving with every game.

1-3
|
Chirk AAA’s notched up a 3-1 win over champions Rhos Aelwyd and it was their third straight win against last seasons champions. This was sweet victory over a Rhos side that only last month inflicted a 6-0 cup defeat over the Holyhead Road side. Chirk led 2-0 at the interval thanks to goals from leading scorer Gareth Roberts and defender Andrew Roberts. Rhos almost got themselves back into the match when one of their players collided with Chirk's Chris Evans in the area following a corner, with the referee awarding a penalty. Rhos striker Eryl Roberts took the resulting spot-kick which was a comfortable save for Chirk keeper Valentine. Rhos did manage to pull a goal back on 70 minutes through Nefyn Davies but the game was sealed courtesy of Chirk's Chris Evans who unleashed a stinging 25 yard shot which rattled off the crossbar and into the net for his first goal of the season.

In the second round of the Premier Division League Cup, Rhos Aelwyd were beaten 3-1 by Mold Alexandra. First half Rhos weren’t at the races and the half belonged to Mold, but for all their possession they only had an Alun Winstanley goal to show for it. Rhos were then were hit on the break after about 65 mins, conceded possession in their half and Craig Rush doubled Mold’s tally. Rhos introduced youngsters Steven Almand and Steve Parry and made an impression pulling a goal back on 85th minutes through Parry but pressing for an equaliser a defensive lapse enabled Wes Brereton to nip in and score.

Brickfield Rgrs

WNL
|
1-2
|
Really dissapointing result from a match Rhos dominated from start to finish but without really calling the home keeper into enough action. Rhos went behind as early as the fourth minute when the Brickfield attack punished the defence for not dealing with a long ball pumped forward, this early goal seemed to force Rhos to grab the game by the scruff of the neck who seemed to have almost all the possession for the remainder of the half but lacked the final ball to make the obvious domination count. HT 0-1
The second half started with Rhos limiting Brickfield to the odd counter attack in our search for the equailzer. Rhos actually levelled in the 58th minute with Leighton Edwards finishing off a great move, at that point it looked like Rhos were going to go on to complete a comfortable win. Yet less than 2 minutes later a Brickfield striker was pulled back in the Box and the penalty was converted in what proved to be the decisive goal. Rhos piled forward but were thwarted by an excellent defensive display from Dave Griffiths in the heart of the Brickfield defence.
As said earlier a very dissapointing result but praise needs to go out to an excellent individual display for Aidie Smith who was playing only his second match in the Rhos attack, big things expected from the big lad in the remainder of the season.

Todays match saw the completion of the first Round of the league cup at the 4th attempt with 1 abandonment and 2 postponements previously. Both teams struggled to come to terms with the conditions at the start with possession proving difficult to keep. Rhos opened the scoring through Darren Greenway when he caught the visiting keeper out with a low driven cross that crept in at the near post. HT 1-0.
The second half started with Rhos peppering the Chirk goal and looked like scoring with almost every attack. Rhos doubled the advantage through Geraint Williams and further goals from Williams again, Eryl Roberts (2) substitute Chris Lewis made the scoreline look as comfortable as it was.
Again very pleased with the performance but most pleasing was the fact that we had a clean sheet for the second match running.

Hawarden

WNL
|
1-0
|
Rhos started very brightly forcing 3 corners and Centre Defender Phil Dodd scoring off the second corner of the game after 3 mins. Rhos then outplayed Hawarden and created many scoring chances, Gareth Williams being very unlucky when hitting the bar and then having two other strikes cleared off the line. The midfield five of Geraint Wiliams, Leighton Edwards, Gareth Williams , Chris Lewis and Tom Smith started to run the show and we played some nice attractive football in their half. The second half saw the wind pick up and that played a big part in making it difficult to clear our lines, but all credit to the team they defended very well and Hawarden never created one scoring opportunity. As the wind decreased we again created scoring opportunities and how the referee failed to give a penalty for the blatant trip on sub Steven Parry when running clear on goal is beyond belief.
Anyway very pleased by the performance and all 14 players who turned out played their part. But special mention to Phil Dodd, Stefan Davies and Dyfan Williams after excellent performances

2-3
|
Gresford traveled to Rhos Aelwyd the team who knocked them out of NEWFA challenge cup last season. Gresford started brightly taking the game to Rhos from the off. Danny Purdie and Phil Jones could have put them ahead in the first ten minutes, the later seeing his effort come back off the post. Shaun Williams and Wyn Jones then combined to set up Craig Williams but his effort was off target. Rhos then had a great chance to take the lead but Tom Smith fired over with the goal at his mercy. Jones and Purdie then had further chances to put Gresford ahead but both efforts missed the target. Shaun Williams then forced the home keeper into a good save with a twenty yard shot. Just as it looked like it was going to be one of those days for Gresford, who should have been well ahead, Kevin Todd headed home a Wyn Jones free kick to give them a well deserved lead. Todd almost doubled the advantage when he headed a cross from Shaun Williams against the post. Williams then created another chance that Craig Williams fired against the post and from the rebound hit the woodwork again.
Half Time Rhos Aelwyd 0 Gresford Athletic 1
Rhos took the game to Gresford at the start of the second half but with Craig Williams causing the Rhos defence all kinds of trouble a second goal for Gresford looked ominous, this came when Williams headed an excellent Alan Williams cross over the Rhos keeper. Gareth Rowland in the Gresford goal was then called into his first action of the match as he saved at the feet of a Rhos forward Rhos reduced the deficit on seventy minutes when Kevin Hope diverted a cross into his own goal. Within minutes Craig Williams seemed to have restored Gresford's two goal advantage but the goal was disallowed for offside. They did not have to wait long for a goal that did count as Phil Jones hit a powerful shot into the bottom corner. With five minutes remaining Rhos scored a second and only for an excellent save by Rowland in the last minute when he smothered at the feet of Thomas Smith the game could have gone into extra time.

The result today mattered more than performance and on today's showing the team looked a little short of confidence. Several changes were forced upon Tony with the unavailability of Phil Dodd (Holiday), Aled Dodd(Broken leg) and Darren Greenway (iIlness). Craig Thomas reverted to sweeper, with Steve Parry coming in after fine performances for the reserves in previous weeks. After a slow opening period Brynteg took the lead when a mix up between Geraint Williams and Goal keeper Mathew Griffiths resulted in a tap in for the Brynteg forward. Rhos started to exert some pressure and a fine goal from Nefyn Davies from a series of good pass and move play. Rhos continued to look for a second , but wayward finishing and a lack of confidence played its part in the game ending all square at half time. The second period started brightly with Rhos starting to exert more and more pressure on the unfit looking Brynteg Team. The defensive trio of Craig, Geraint and Stefan having very little to do and all three started to knock quality balls to the forwards and midfielders. after 60 mins Rhos finally got the second goal they richly deserved from Geraint Williams curling a superb 25 yarder into the top corner. Rhos started to relax and with the promptings of Steve Brookes and the impressive Leighton Edwards the Brynteg defence were starting to creak. the third goal came from a sublime pass from Leighton into the path of Steve Parry who drew the keeper and slotted the ball home. Tony rang the changes withdrawing Eryl, Tom and Nefyn and replaced them with Gareth Williams Chris Lewis and Phil Hignett. Rhos continued to dominate the closing quarter and played with a lot more confidence.

A dissapointing local derby defeat for Rhos who played a large majority of the match with only 10 men due to injury to Aled Dodd after all the substitutes were used.
Rhos started the game with a bite and looked physically stronger than the Penycae side and seemed to want the points more. Penycae took the lead on the half hour mark with a dubious penalty awarded when Goalkeeper Darren Reynolds was adjusted to have brought down the Penycae striker inside the penalty area, no doubt it was a foul but onlookers said the incident happened at least 2 yards outside the penalty area. Up stepped Ian Andrew to put the home side 1-0 up. HT 1-0
The second half started with Rhos looking to impose themselves firmly in the Penycae half, but 10 mins into the half Aled Dodd had to be withdrawn with a serious ankle injury and as all substitutes were already used had to play the remainder of the match a man light. Still pushing to grab the equaliser Rhos got caught with a sucker punch in the final minute when Ian Andrews capitalized on a defensive mix up to put the game beyond doubt.

Todays match saw Rhos again squander a two goal advantage in the closing stages of a match to throw away what would have been a valuable extra two points.
Rhos had young goalkeeper Darren Reynolds making his debut and the match also saw Craig Thomas return to the club after a 10 month stint turning out for Lex X1, also the impressive Steven Brookes was unavailable due to work commitments. The conditions for todays match were very difficult for both sides with a near gale force wind blowing straight across the extremely rough playing surface. With both sides struggling to come to terms with the conditions not too many chances were created but Rhos took the lead on the stroke of half time with Nefyn Davies taking the ball in his stride to slot under the advancing keeper. HT 0-1.
The second half started and Rhos seemed to step up a level and seemed to overpower Coedpoeth in almost every department, Rhos then took a 2-0 lead through an excellent free kick by Thomas Smith (65) giving the home keeper no chance whatsoever. Then completely against the run of play Coedpoeth pulled a goal back (78 mins) when Rhos failed to keep possession, then with their tails between their legs Coedpoeth managed to grab a late equaliser (86 mins). Rhos still almost snatched the 3 points in injury time with Darren Greenway forcing a decent save from the keeper when possibly pulling the ball back to Eryl Roberts might have been a better option.

A very competent performance by the team, who took Llangollen apart from start to finish.
Rhos' workrate was tremendous and thoroughly deserved their scoreline.
Eryl Roberts opened the scoring with a well taken goal at the near post.
From then on it was one way traffic, Tom Smith blasted home an unstoppable shot, but it was Steven Brooke who stole the show with a brilliant Hat-Trick and another excellent performance, what a season he is having and showing a great team attitude.

This was a game that Rhos were always in charge, until the last six minutes.
Leighton Edwards opened the scoring against his former Club. Tom Smith added a second before Chirk pulled one back.
Rhos were in command of the game, but they needed a third goal to secure the points.
It came from Nefyn Davies, who scored one of the best goals seen for a long time on the Ponciau, he left two players standing and played a one-two which took him into the box, he then cooly slotted it past the keeper.
Rhos squandered some good opening when on numerous occasions when they had three on two, unfortunately wrong options were taken and the moves fell apart.
With six minutes to go, a free kick from 25 yards that was crossed into the box saw the Chirk forward pounce on it to score with ease, with the Aelwyd defense motionless. Chirk grabbed an equaliser with 2 minutes to go when a cross from the right was converted. A disappointing result after playing some good football.

On a shocking pitch Rhos found themselves a goal down after ten minutes when the swirling wind caught Wayne "Buster" Wright, (who was making his debut in goal) off guard, the ball sailed into the net from the free kick.
Also making his debut was Mirco Cristian, and his class showed when he expertly controlled a high ball and blasted it into the net, a fantastic quality goal from a class player. Rhos took the lead with another brilliant goal from Steven Brookes, when he round three players to slot the ball home. Rhos began to dominate the game at this stage and it was no surprise when they added a third, Darren Greenway hit an unstoppable shot low and hard into the net. H/T 3-1
The second half picked up where it left off with Rhos always looking to add to their tally, however, some good approach play was not rewarded with a goal until five minutes from time when some good movement by Steven Brooke left him clear at the edge of the box, he crossed for Steven Parry to slot home following some intelligent positional play by Steven.
A moral boosting performance by the team, but, on a good day Tom Smith could have had a bagful and if Rhos had of scored a lot more nobody would have been surprised on this performance.
To pick a man of the match for this game it would be very difficult. Leighton Edwards was excellent in midfield, Steven Brookes was magic up front, Steve Walters showed his class to play at the back and a good Captain's performance from Stefan Davies, but I think the display of the day came from Mirco Cristian who impressed everyone with his Control, Effort and scoring ability for such a young lad.
With more players back from injury and suspension next, it's going to be a selection problem for Tony, but it's a welcome problem to have after losing so many players from last season's squad.

Again today saw a number of changes to the starting eleven with Steven Brookes & Andrew Edwards returning and Andrew Williams replacing the unavailable Dave Bloor in the Rhos goal. Rhos reverted back to a familiar 3-5-2 formation and from the off took the game to Brickfield knowing the importance of a victory today. Rhos actually took the lead in the 15th minute when Steven Brookes fed Dyfan Williams down the line who in turn crossed for Thomas Smith to slot the ball home from 6yards. Rhos then extended their lead on 21mins with a long ball out of defence that Steven Brookes took control of with his chest, turned the defence with a bit of magic and lobbed the goal with what could only be described as an excellent finish. With Rhos now coasting with a two goal cushion Brickfield decided to come their shell and pulled a goal back on 32 mins with Dave Hoosen scored with an excellent 25 yard free kick that flew in the top corner. HT 2-1. The second half began with both teams struggling to come to terms with the gale force wind conditions and Rhos extended their lead in the 76th minute with captain Andrew 'Teece' Edwards converting a free header to put the match beyond doubt. With Brickfield chasing the game they created three chances in quick succession with Andrew Williams pulling off excellent saves on each occasion. Three points today for the first time in 5 outings was a must and nice to achieve. No doubt plenty more to come with senior players still to return to the squad.
A special mention must go out to excellent individual performances from Leighton Edwards, the ever improving Aled Dodd and goalkeeper Andrew Williams during this afternoons encounter.

Tonights match again saw Rhos missing key players, a problem we have suffered in mid-week for a number of years now. Rhos started the game with another 4-4-2 formation and saw Aled Dodd given the task of filling the unavailable Steve Walters boots, Steven Parry was given his second start in a row after an excellent performance on Saturday. Coedpoeth opened the scoring in the 21st minute when the No.10 capitalized when the Rhos defence seemed to for some reason or other stopped playing, they then extended the lead in the 27th minute when No.9 raced through to slide the ball under the advancing Bloor after a neat ball through from midfield. After finally realising that we were in a game Rhos started to up the tempo and peppered the Coedpoeth goal for the remainder of the half and Pulled a goal back in the 41st minute with Darren Greenway converting a header from 8 yards out. Rhos then almost leveled right on half time with the visiting keeper pulling off a fine save from Eryl Roberts. HT 1-2. Rhos started the second half in the same vein as the first finished and come close to leveling the score when Darren Greenway and Tom Smith both come close with strikes from distance, with Rhos chasing the game Coedpoeth broke away and extended their lead in the 65 minute when the No.10 converted a rebound off the Rhos crossbar. Coedpoeth then decided to defend in numbers in protect their lead but Rhos almost pulled a goal back with the visiting keeper again thwarting Roberts with another fine save. Rhos actually reduced the arrears in the 71st minute with Tom Smith beating the advancing keeper with a delightful chip and Rhos leveled the scoring in the 80th minute with Eryl Roberts finally managing to beat the visiting keeper with a free header from 6 yards out. Now with the scores level Rhos went in search of the winner without really again testing the visiting custodian and almost paid the ultimate penalty when Coedpoeth broke away and almost snatched a last minute winner with the striker firing into the side netting. Four matches now without taking maximum points. But feel as soon as we achieve a settled side without key players missing we will surly start to collect points as defending champions should.

Today saw two of the pre season fancied teams come face to face for the first time. Rhos had to re-shuffle their pack with 6 first team regulars un-available due to one reason or another. Rhos started the match with an unfamiliar 4-4-2 formation yet looked the most likely to open the scoring early on with Darren Greenway rising at the far post from a Steve Walters free kick to head wide when unchallenged. Mold took the lead in the match in the 27th minute when James Bevan swung in a free kick from the from the far right side that eluded everyone and flew over Andrew Williams head and straight into the top corner. Karl Thomas come close to leveling the match in the 38th min when his 25 yard piledriver was cleared and Steve Walters fired over the rebound. HT. 1-0. Two minutes into the second period Rhos should have leveled the match when Darren Greenway raced through one on one but seemed to get the ball stuck under his feet and in two minds if to go for goal himself or square to the free Eryl Roberts, he seemed to do neither and the home custodian collected comfortably. In the 65th minute Mold had the ball in the Rhos net again but the linesman had his flag up for offside in a decision that looked really close. Rhos then again were unlucky not to level with the ball being cleared off the Mold line 3 times in a matter of seconds and they eventually cleared. Then with Rhos chasing the game Mold on two occasions exploited with break aways and Andrew Williams come to Rhos's rescue on both occasions pulling off two fine saves to keep the game in the balance. With Rhos still chasing the what seemed elusive equalizer Tom Smith put an effort over the bar from 5yards out when he really should have scored, but he made up for that miss only 2 minutes later when he drove home a free kick from the edge of the area (84mins) to give the home keeper no chance. both teams looked as though they still wanted to win the match but neither managed to grab the winner in the remaining time. But with so many players unavailable for this match this in the marathon of what a league championship is could prove to be a very valuable point.

This evenings match in really wet conditions saw influential midfielder Steve Walters return for Rhos after he was unavailable for our previous match. The opening and what turned out to be the only goal of the match was scored by Arron Davies who struck an excellent strike from the edge of the area that rocketed into the top corner after the Rhos defence had allowed a long ball up field to bounce. Rhos almost leveled in the 35min when Thomas Smith went close with an angled drive that flew past the home keepers post. In the 40th minute Rhos had appeals for a penalty when Thomas Smith beat the last defender to the ball and was blatantly brought down when clear through on goal, the referee adjudged the foul to have taken place just outside the area and unbelievably took no action against the player responsible. Steve Walters fired the resulting kick high over the bar. HT 1-0. Rhos played some decent football in the second half and some may thing deserved something from this match but the bottom line though the majority of the action was on the edge of the Brymbo area we rarely called the home goalkeeper into action as I cant really remember him actually making a save. Whilst Rhos were chasing the game Brymbo broke clear and almost extended the lead on 85minutes when James Pierce fired wide when looked easier to score. Overall a disapointing result against a team who will no doubt be in the mix when honours are handed out next spring as they have now beaten both fancied Rhos & Mold Alex in their opening 4 matches. Though as everyone knows the league championship is a marathon not a sprint.

Today welcomed Llay Welfare to Ponciau banks and it obviously showed that every match this season will be like a cup final with everyone wanting to beat the current champions. Rhos took the lead in the 20th minute when Eryl Roberts rounded the keeper to score his first goal of the season. Llay equalized in the 29th minute when the No.8 capitalized from a defensive error after a corner. Llay could quite easily have taken the lead less than a minute later but Bloor pulled off an excellent save at his near post. Rhos again took the lead in the 34th minute when Darren Greenway making his first start of the season turned on the edge of the box and fired in an excellent goal giving the visiting keeper no chance. HT 2-1. The second half started with Lllay flying out of the blocks and almost equalized in the 50th minute when the No.11 struck the crossbar, they actually did level the scoring in the 61st minute when the Rhos defence seemed to stop thinking the ball had gone out of play and the No.3 capitalized. Three minutes later with Rhos raising the tempo in search of the win disaster struck with Llay taking the lead for the first time in the match with the No.11 scoring with a deflection that looped over the stranded Bloor in the Rhos goal. Rhos really had a game on their hands with the Llay defence looking very difficult to breach but a bit of clever thinking from Eryl Roberts brought the match level again in the 75th minute, the Llay keeper had collected a long through ball and without knowing the ever alert Roberts was behind him he held the ball in only one hand, Eryl headed the ball out of the keepers 1 hand and tapped into the empty net. Rhos then piled on the pressure in search of the winner with Chris Hopwood and Steven Brookes both coming close but Llay hung on to claim a point.

First of this seasons midweek matches, in previous years it is midweek matches that we have seemed to have struggled, but judging by the way this one started this seemed slightly different. After only 12 seconds, yes seconds Rhos broke the deadlock with a strong run down the left by Nefyn Davies being converted at the near post by the impressive Leighton Edwards who was making his home debut. Acrefair then restored parity in the 15th minute when Stuart Challoner broke free and finished with ease. Literally seconds later Rhos regained the lead when Steven Brooke's broke the offside trap to slot under the advancing keeper. In what was a rather scrappy 1st half Acrefair again drew level on 40mins when Mark Wilkins crept in an applied a neat finish from the near post. HT 2-2. The second half started in a very similar manor to the first being scrappy and Acrefair took the lead for the 1st time in the match with Aaron Polgette making the most of a Rhos defensive mix-up in the 50th min. Rhos then decided to introduce Darren Greenway into the match in place of the tiring Eryl Roberts and within 3mins (63mins) he had pulled Rhos back level after some impressive work by Chris Hopwood. Acrefair should have in the 78th min regained the lead when Polgette fired wide with a gilt edged chance. Rhos actually took the lead for the 3rd time in the match in the 76th min when Tom Smith forced the ball home after some excellent work in the middle of the park by Steven Booke's. Rhos then sealed the victory when Leighton Edwards headed in from 6yards out in the 88th minute.
Another 3 points but yet to reach the performance levels we reached last term, but still points are what matters. As said earlier a scrappy match but extra praise needs to go to an excellent individual performance from Steven Brooke's.

First League match in our defence of last seasons championship triumph saw us visit our so-called bogey side Borras Park Albion. On arrival things started badly with no changing rooms provided, but to be a successful side we need to take things like that on the chin and just get on with it. The game kicked off with near gale force winds and obviously effected the flow of the match as neither side could really get control of the ball, obviously this was going to be a battle of who wants it the most. With the first half really scrappy the first real chance fell to Steven Brooke who fired over after powering though the centre of the defence. Then on 44mins the first goal of the match arrived with the ball getting stuck in Dave Blower's feet and the impressive Decal Bourne dispossessed and run into an empty net. HT 1-0 Down. Rhos then leveled the scoring in the 55th minute with Steve Walters converting a free kick from the edge of the area that went in off the post. Rhos were then well on top and more goals only looked a matter of time, 2 minutes later Rhos should have taken the lead when Leighton Edwards headed wide from a chance that looked easier to score. Rhos actually took the lead only a minute later again (58min) when Steven Brooke raced through and chipped the home keeper from a tight angle and Darren Greenway made sure of the goal firing in from close range. Rhos then put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute when Geraint Williams freed Thomas Smith to neatly finish off the match with a cool chip. All in all a rather scrappy game but the conditions and no changing rooms not helping, but its good to see the team grinding out a result when needed. 1 game 1 win, what more could you ask for. Last of our 5 pre season friendlies and to be honest its been a struggle for one reason or another, but today's performance was a vast improvement. Rhos took a 1-0 lead in the 23 minute when Thomas Smith rounded the keeper when put through clear after some excellent work from the young Steven Parry, the Denbigh keeper sustained an injury in this incident and could not continue, we wish him a speedy recovery. Denbigh playing some neat football drawn level in the 40th minute when Richard Cooke-Williams fired in hard and low when Williams could not quite reach a header to clear. HT 1-1. Denbigh then took what seemed a deserved lead in the 52nd minute when Ian Bowyer Jones lost possession on the edge of the area and the no.10 applied a neat finish from 12 yards out. Denbigh them took a 3-1 lead on 78mins when no.17 scored from a tight angle after being put through 1 on 1. Then the fight back began with the impressive looking Steven Parry reducing the arrears in the 88th minute with a great finish and Thomas Smith then scored the equalizing goal in the 90th minute with a free header from 8 yards out. A special mention need to go out to the performances of young Steven Parry and Thomas Smith for impressive displays as well as scoring our goals. Also to Andy 'Teece' Edwards for standing between the sticks as we had no goalkeeper. Overall a good run out for both clubs in preparation for the long hard season that begins in only 7 days time.

Quarter final of the annual Mike Rogers memorial trophy in Llangollen. Rhos played some excellent football in the first half and raced into a 3-0 interval lead with strikes from Eryl Roberts, Steven Brooks & Thomas Smith. In the second half with Cefn chasing the game Rhos began the better side but were caught out with a long ball over the top and Ian Oliver Davies converted with a neat finish past Harris from a tight angle. Rhos looking to re-group conceded a number of corners in quick succession and eventually Cefn converted from one with a free header by Mathew Scott from eight yards out. Then an incident that unfortunately for Rhos the game will be remembered, Gary Harris come to collect a cross and took a nasty fall and suffered a serious injury to his left leg. Ian Bowyer Jones stood up and took over in goal but with the result now seeming not so important Cefn went on to score 3 goals in quick succession. Due to the nature of Gary's injury the actual result as said earlier did not seem to matter. But overall the result was another negative in our struggle through pre-season but all is not as bad a results might seem to show as looking on the players we have at our disposal and the commitment to succeed by the management things still look really promising for the upcoming defence of our championship title and quest for cymru alliance football. First Pre-season friendly of the Season seen a very Young in-experienced Rhos side play on what can only be described as a farmers field. John Davies in goal and Leighton Edwards in midfield were making their Rhos debuts and neither let the side down in any way. Phil Hignett opened the scoring for Rhos on 15mins with a cross come shot that flew over the opposition keepers head, at this time in play Rhos were well on top and playing some nice football. Upton leveled the score in the 22min when No.8 tapped in from close range in a goal that seemed to have more than a hint of offside to it. Upton then took the lead 2mins later when Rhos lost the ball on the half way line and the 7 raced through one on one with Davies and finished with relative ease. Another 2 minutes later Upton extended their lead when the No. 8 overpowered Kerry Williams on the edge of the penalty area and produced a great finish from 15yds out. Upton scored their 4th and final goal in the 40th minute when the no.7 struck for his second goal of the game. HT 1-4. The second half started with Gary Harris replacing Davies in goal and Mark Jones and Nicky Smith replacing Nefyn Davies and Steven Parry respectively. In the second period Rhos looked comfortable and tested the opposition keeper on a number of occasions, and limited Upton to a few long range efforts. Though not adding to our tally the management were happy with the overall performance of the team as the final result did not really do us justice. A special mention needs to go to Chris Hopwood on an excellent individual display as he was by far the outstanding performer on the entire pitch, his close control and passing skills were a joy to watch. Overall a bad result in terms of score as a 6min spell cost us dearly, but plenty of good actually come out of this the first of our pre season fixtures.
